“Here I Am (Waiting for You)” began as something that felt like a page torn from a diary — or a letter never sent. The song carries a quiet tension that slowly builds, and I wanted the video to reflect that same feeling.
The music video was created in collaboration with my longtime friend, photographer Kâté Braydon. We were roommates back in art school, and I’ve always loved her documentary-style photography. We set up in different locations around uptown Saint John, where Kâté captured a mix of rapid bursts and slower exposures — sometimes with me standing or sitting still while the city moved around me, other times with the city frozen while I moved through it. In the end, 303 photographs were selected and sequenced together, creating eerie movement that mirrors the tension and drama in the song.
There were also a few memorable moments while recording the track itself - drummer Jordi Comstock created the thunder effect by striking a piece of sheet metal we found in the theatre where we recorded, Bill, Sandy, Chris and I tracked acoustic rhythm guitars together around a microphone, and hearing Jon Estes’ string arrangements in the mix for the first time — I instantly fell in love with the way the strings transformed the song and added so much tension and drama.
This song has been with me for a long time, and I’m so happy it finally found its moment.
