Blackberry Lane is the second album from New Brunswick folk trio Preeper Rhaye MacKay, following their acclaimed debut, Wood & Wire. The album brings together original songs from all three members - Jessica Rhaye, Bill Preeper, and Sandy MacKay - showcasing their individual songwriting voices while celebrating the harmony and musical connection that define the trio.

Inspired by the folk traditions of the 1960s Greenwich Village scene, the album blends acoustic and electric instrumentation with rich three-part harmonies and carefully crafted arrangements. Alongside the original songs are two special interpretations: a heartfelt rendition of the late Ken Tobias's Every Bit of Love and the timeless traditional ballad Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song), dating back to the early 1900s.

Produced by longtime friend and collaborator Dale Murray with Preeper, Rhaye MacKay, Blackberry Lane was recorded at Blackberry Studio in New Brunswick and Farmhouse Studio in Nova Scotia. Featuring warm acoustic performances, tasteful electric textures, and the trio's signature three-part harmonies, the album captures the spirit of friends making music together - honouring folk traditions while offering a collection of songs that is unmistakably their own.

Jessica Rhaye, Bill Preeper, and Sandy MacKay, together known as Preeper Rhaye MacKay, are a New Brunswick–based folk trio recognized for rich three-part harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, and a sound that feels timeless yet entirely their own.

Acclaimed songwriter and Canadian Folk Music Award nominee Jessica Rhaye, with more than 25 years of touring and nine albums to her name, leads on rhythm guitar, while Bill Preeper’s intricate fingerstyle guitar and mandolin add richness and depth. Sandy MacKay rounds out the trio on upright and electric bass, with touches of banjo that add warmth and colour to their sound.

The trio blends acoustic and electric instrumentation with lush three-part harmonies and shared lead vocals that take listeners back to the height of the Greenwich Village folk scene of the 1960s. It’s new folk music at its finest, drawing on the influence of artists like Woody Guthrie, Ian Tyson, and Bob Dylan. With beautifully crafted original songs woven together with folk favourites, their intricate vocal blend is reminiscent of a modern-day Peter, Paul and Mary.

Their debut trio album, Wood & Wire (2024), earned an East Coast Music Association nomination for Roots Release of the Year, along with three Music New Brunswick nominations. The release followed years of musical collaboration as members of Jessica Rhaye and The Ramshackle Parade, including the acclaimed albums Just Like a Woman – Songs of Bob Dylan (2019), Sunshine Baby (2023) and Foolish Heart EP (2026).

Their follow-up album, Blackberry Lane (2026), features original songs from each member alongside a heartfelt tribute to the late Ken Tobias and a beautiful interpretation of the traditional folk song Fare Thee Well (Dink’s Song). The record reflects the musical bond that has grown within the trio, while continuing to honour their genuine love of harmony and making music together.
